inexpensive wedding catering options or alternatives

Anonymous asked: Advice on catering your own wedding? or getting cheap food, like fast food or pizzas?!
ok, sometimes i think you guys are just messing with me with the “ask” feature, but this one seems at least half-way legit so i will give you some advice for some ideas that won’t look so tacky as a silver platter of whoppers or a stack of dominos boxes.

and just to clarify, i love the idea of eating pizza at a wedding, but the thought of the pizza hut delivery guy rolling up in the middle of the ceremony makes me cringe, almost as much as the idea of eating cold chicken mcnuggets and french fries.

keep in mind that a smaller guest list equals a smaller bill overall, even if you self-cater your wedding, plus you get to spend more time with each individual attending friend and family member.  and sacrificing something small like programs or buying your wedding dress second hand can help you move some of your budget funds to use towards food cost.

a casual picnic wedding

Anonymous asked: Hi! Do you or any of your followers have any fun ideas for a casual picnic wedding? Most of us don’t really like to dance, so I’m looking for other types of entertainment that wouldn’t be tacky but still fit in the picnic theme. Thanks!

as far as entertainment goes, i’m always a huge fan of photobooths [you get photos at the end and it keeps guests entertained so it’s a win, win!].  your guests will probably be sitting down so any kind of simple board games [i personally love chinese checkers] or classic cards.  try setting up some lawn games like croquet or bocce ball.  and here are some photos for inspiration that are not related at all to your entertainment…

[free “let’s picnic” invitations]

these yellow gingham invitations may be a bit too informal for a wedding, but i’ll leave it up to you to determine whether or not they are a good fit.

vintage picnic basket wedding invitations from minted

i love how the wedding venue is the same as the reception venue and the food has already been distributed in a variety of vintage picnic baskets.

keep in mind that some of your guests might not be physically able to get down on the ground to sit… depending on your location, hay bales with quilts over them could be an option for these guests or traditional picnic tables.

do any of you have any suggestions for a casual picnic wedding?

movie theater themed wedding

Anonymous asked:Do you have any suggestions for a movie theater location and movie themed wedding. We love horror movies (But all kinds of movies as well) but we want to keep it classy. Thanks :)
i can’t really do anything to help with a movie theater location (especially without your location miss anon), but i can show you some photos for inspiration.  keep in mind that the lighting in movie theaters is HORRIBLE and an absolute nightmare for your photographer.  my suggestion is to set up a cozy outdoor movie theater for your reception.

library wedding

Anonymous asked: Library wedding? I’m thinking of the multipupose hall in our local library :) Ideas/suggestions please?

why the multipurpose room?  you should try to hold it in the main part of the library after hours!

books, card catalogs [bring your own if your library doesn’t have them anymore], book pages used as decor and flowers.  card catalog cards used for guest books and/or escort cards.  card catalog boxes can be used as your wedding card box.

and check out these amazing wedding invitations from oh so beautiful paper:

i’ve also posted tons and tons of photos tagged books that should help you.

Anonymous asked:What are your thoughts on (say for a small wedding probably less than 100 guests) us making our own playlist for the reception? Renting our own speakers or something along those lines?
i’m all about doing your own play list and omitting the d.j./band to help shave some money off of your wedding budget!  especially if you are having a smaller wedding.  for the last two weddings i went to this summer 1 had a dj, 1 did not.  the dj did nothing special, he didn’t do any announcements or anything so as long as you have a friend or family member to volunteer to pause at certain times for the toast and to announce special dances, set up your play list, put it on your mp3 player.  you may even want to burn it to a disk and provide it as wedding favors like the photo above!  i’ve already shared this link, but i will share it again, great suggestions for 6 upbeat father-daughter dance songs so you aren’t dancing with your dad to something romantic and creepy.
Anonymous asked:I absolutely LOVE your blog. Gorgeous and very inspirational!
